A couple of suggestions for the next level, keep an eye out from the corners of your images and the background. Make sure you look to all the edges and elements in your shot to make sure nothing distracting is going on not just the principal subject.
For outdoor shots, particularly of smooth surfaces like flower petals in sunlight, you can get specular highlights, where the surface goes pure white. You can’t recover that information in post. The best way is to use some shade, either a person standing and casting a shadow over the subject, or a scrim/transparent cloth. Try and use white coloured cloth otherwise you will have a colour cast. The other thing to watch out for is overly dark backgrounds. There are a couple of ways to deal with that. A flash is useful to balance out the light, or the other thing that is simple to use is bounce card or fabric, where you ‘bounce’ the light off the card/fabric into the darker shadows and balance the light/darkness a bit more. It’s also useful for portraiture and other photography subjects too to add light into dark zone.
