The Christmas 2021 competition is now open for entries. Any image that has been taken since the 1st January 2021 is eligible for entry (Including images previously submitted). Members who attend the meeting will vote to pick the most popular image. Entries close at 6pm on the night of the meeting (14th December). Fill out my online form.
Shooting out doors A couple of suggestions for the next level, keep an eye out from the corners of your images and the background. Make sure you look to all the edges and elements in your shot to make sure nothing distracting is going on not just the principal subject.For outdoor shots, particularly of smooth surfaces like flower petals in sunlight, you can get specular highlights, where the surface goes pure white. Travel Following are some tips to rewarding travel images: •Make sure you pack plenty of memory cards – 8-16GB quality ones – and your battery charger with the correct plugs! Do NOT Share Memory cards with others – this is when you will have challenges, and remember to ‘format’ them in camera when you first insert them. •Try to include variants of images – don’t just shoot landscapes. Photography Tips Portraits: Following are some tips to rewarding portrait images: •Use the “Portrait’ Setting on your camera (see above icon) or use a minimum aperture setting (F4 or lower).•Use either a telephoto lens or a good 50mm lens for that flattering look. Landscapes: Following are some tips to rewarding landscape images: •Use a tripod more often than not – great to keep the camera steady whilst using a slow shutter speed, and in most cases you will have the time.•Set your camera to Landscape (see above symbol) or use a larger aperture number (around F8 or higher).•Shoot the majority of your images either at dawn or sunset – the lighting is more even around the country-side and provides more interesting shadows.•Either use […]
